Subject: [Tweeters] Is a Scope Cover Necessary?

Dear Tweeters,

I have noticed that many people keep a protective cover on their spotting scopes. I am planning on buying a new Swarovski ATM 65. It does not come with a cover. One can be purchased, but the price for the cover is over $200. The specifications say that the scope is "dustproof, waterproof, and submersible to 13 feet". It also comes with a lifetime warranty.

Unless I am missing something, I don't think I need a cover and would rather put the money towards something else, such as a good tripod.

Any thoughts about scope covers?
