Hi Tweets: My husband and I have developed a custom of staying over until Tuesday at the annual Memorial Day Wenas Audubon campout (this year was the 47th of this fantastic birding event). The last thing we do is walk the campground with a trash bag, picking up as much garbage as we can. While this can be icky, we do it because we love Wenas and want those who come after us to enjoy it as much as we do.
?
As we neared the campground entrance, we?heard a couple of MACGILLIVRAY'S WARBLERS raising an alarm. Nearby was a NORTHERN PYGMY OWL bathing in a large puddle. We stood for nearly 10 minutes as he alternately bathed then fluffed. Finally, he flew into a tree and positioned himself in the sunshine for more primping and drying.
?
Wenas is always good, but this was one of those special moments that makes the annual campout such a treasured tradition. Put it on your calendar for next year!
