Back from 9 weeks field work on California's Central Coast, I was eager to
resume my at least occasional 3-mile morning and birding loop walks
through the Lake Hills Greenbelt which I started with some regularity during the
winter in this delightful 'green zone' in the heart of Bellevue and
belatedly joining the ranks of such long long time regulars as Hugh Jennings.
Highlight of yesterday morning's inaugural walk (Th 6/03) was an adult male
ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAK seen along the path north of the small red produce
stand and windmill at the corner of SE 16th Street and 156th Ave SE. There
is a small parking area on that corner and the bird was seen silently
skulking about in a medium small tree right along the west (left) side of the
gravel trail just north of the first grove of evergreens but before the first
park bench & trash can further north. Walking time from the parking area
and windmill is no more than 5 minutes. Sorry I didn't post this yesterday
as I forgot after notifying Hugh. A personal STATE first for me, so that
was a nice and quite unexpected welcome home starter bird.
