Hi Tweets,

How refreshing to wander out without a rain jacket under blue skies!
Even the Sound was flat and blue this morning (6-5-10). Still no
sign of Purple Martins at the waterfront gourds but two adult Bald
Eagles were perched on the gourd pilings. Several Marbled Murrelets
could be seen from the Public Pier along with Rhinoceros Auklets that
were farther out. Four Brants flew by heading north towards
Everett. At the Willow Creek Hatchery there were tanagers, creepers,
wood-pewee and Black-headed Grosbeak. As we walked up to the Point
Edwards property an Eurasian Collared-Dove flew west on the Woodway
side of Pine Street. A weasel crossed the road, heading into
Woodway. Two Spotted Sandpipers, a Cooper's Hawk, and a singing
Marsh Wren were the most interesting birds at the Marsh. Other birds
of interest seen during this last week include Warbling Vireo,
Wilson's Warbler, and Willow Flycatcher at the Marsh, and a female
Purple Finch at Point Edwards. A word of warning. There is a
Waterfront Festival going on today and tomorrow. The Lady Washington
is in the marina for the event. There is an open house at the
hatchery. So more than the usual number of visitors and cars will be
in the Edmonds Bowl this weekend. You can avoid most of the activity
and traffic by birding early in the morning--when the birds are out
anyway.
