I did some birding along Hwy.12 from the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery eastward to FR1270. I didn't quite do as well as Russ Koppendrayer last Friday. I missed the bunting and the kingbirds, in which the kingbirds surely have moved on, but still got some good birds none the less.
At the Cowlitz Trout Hatchery I had;
TURKEY VULTURE - 1
OSPREY - 2
BALD EAGLE - 1
WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE - 1
WILLOW FLYCATCHER - lots
HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER - 2
PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER - 2
SWAINSON'S THRUSH - several
YELLOW WARBLER - several
WESTERN TANAGER - 1
BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAK - 1
PURPLE FINCH - 2

Next on the route was Short Rd. There is a nice view of Mt. St. Helens at the end of the paved road. I stopped at a new clearcut and there was also an old road that one can walk down. This place is .6 miles from Hwy 12 after turning onto Short Rd. Here I had;
HAIRY WOODPECKER - 1
WESTERN WOOD-PEWEE - 1
HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER - 1
PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER - 1
SWAINSON'S THRUSH
ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER - 1
BLACK-THROATED GRAY WARBLER - 1
WILSON'S WARBLER - 1
MacGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER - 2

As I continued eastward, I tried my luck on Highland Valley Rd. Not much but singing WARBLING VIREO.

I made it to Peters Rd. where I had;
BANK SWALLOWS (been here since the beginning of May)
NORTHERN ROUG-WINGED SWALLOWS
WOOD DUCK w/ Babies
TURKEY VULTURE - 1
BALD EAGLE - 1
WILSON'S SNIPE - 1
WILLOW FLYCATCHER
YELLOW WARBLER

Once again, I tried my luck on Silverbrook Rd. Not much again, but a singing WARBLING VIREO and a MacGILLIVRAY'S WARBLER.

A quick stop at FR48 produced
RUFOUS HUMMINGBIRD - 1
HOUSE WREN - 1 (been here since the beginning of May)

My last stop was at FR1270. Here I had;
HAMMOND'S FLYCATCHER
PACIFIC-SLOPE FLYCATCHER
TOWNSEND'S WARBLER - 1
CHIPPING SPARROW - 1
PINE SISKIN - 1
