Tweeters,

I made an attempt to try and find the Lucy's Warbler in Skamania Co. this afternoon. Unfortunately I was thwarted due to my choice of route. I drove south from Tacoma on highway 7 to highway 12 then east to Randle and then from there it is about 40 miles south on Forest Road 23 (a mostly paved and good condition road). However, at mile 31 I was forced to turnaround due to snow across the road, still 1-2 feet deep. It was the only snow I came across and I had to be very close to the high point of the "pass".

The only way to access this spot is through Hood River Oregon and then going north through Trout Lake. So coming from Seattle area you must either go through Yakima and Goldendale or Portland to Hood River. Just a heads up. It is a long ways from Seattle.

I am in Portland now to do a Hood River Co. Big Day with John Gatchet tomorrow and then we both may make an search for the LUWA on Sat. am.
