Hey tweets, Patience on a Rock, as I have nicknamed the female Pied-
billed Grebe who has been patiently sitting on her nest in Southwest
Pond since early April (!!!) (to the point where I thought she really
was sitting on rocks) has brought forth babies. I saw two under her
this morning. In fact, this morning seems to have been a time of
babies. A Cinnamon Teal mom is presently escorting seven babies around
and around Shoveler's Pond even as we speak, and the Northern Shoveler
mom with six babies on University Slough has moved them over to the
ditch beside the service road. There must be something terrifically
appealing about that particular ditch because it is also home to two
clutches of Virginia Rail babies and a batch of Mallard babies. I
guess if the economy continues to decline and I really do have to go
live in a ditch, I'll know which one is best.

Also on view this morning, a first of the year GREEN HERON. It was
fishing off the Turtle Logs on the Cove. - Connie, Seattle
