I don't know if there will be other reports from the WOS trips this
weekend and do not want to steal any thunder so I will not include a
lengthy list from two great trips....BUT...I have to report on what I
found to be the most remarkable bird on the trip...a spectacular male
Harlequin Duck. Of all places it was sitting leisurely in the rear
Waterville Sewage Pond no more than 15 feet from the road that circles
the pond. In perfect sunlight it provided amazing photographic
opportunities that I readily took advantage of from the car. Also on
that pond was a very cooperative Wilson's Phalarope, many brilliant
Ruddy Ducks, a Redhead, Mallards, a Gadwall and Cinnamon Teal. By
concentrating on the birds only...it seemed almost like a country
pond...ALMOST.
