Hi Tweeters,

Bill and I spent the last five days east of the mountains,
mostly on WOS field trips, which were all super. On Sunday, we drove around
the Waterville plateau on our own and arrived in the early afternoon at the
gate about ? from Stallard Lake (see Opperman, p. 382). We couldn?t really
see anything on the lake in the heat haze, but overhead was a flock of about
200 California Gulls, calling and slowly circling as they gained altitude.
I don?t suppose this is unusual, but it was very beautiful to watch in the
hot afternoon, all the white birds with the black wing tips, slowly wheeling
and wheeling and getting higher and higher and finally fading from view.
