Here is a short video of a male SPRUCE GROUSE doing the wingclap display. My friend was able to process the wingclap in slow motion to see what actually happens.

The wings are violently struck together behind his back to produce
two, loud gunshot-like sound! As a consequence the fancy forest chicken takes a couple months to molt out new feathers. During this time, the bird remains sedentary and elusive.

One of my favorite grouse!! It was a TREAT to see it and capture this rare
footage on video!
