Subject: [Tweeters] Jay wars on QA

The last week has been very intense. The Scrub Jays in a large number
(counted 7 in a half block at the very beginning - an area that usually has
over 14 Stellar Jays and there were probably more Scrub Jays than that -
that's just what I observed) have invaded the area of the Stellars up here
on QA and the noise has been horrific and constant for hours.

The Stellar that stays around me all the time is looking pretty beat up and
even yesterday after I thought it was all over started screaming on my
railing - s/he just sits there very quietly or on adjacent fence or tree
almost all day waiting for peanuts, cherries, etc. S/he has been coming for
over a year and occasionally follows me around the neighborhood for a block
or two when I leave. I'd never heard hir before except the day of the start
of this Jay war. Screamed for over 20 minutes so thought really wanted a
peanut - but had never done that before, but kept up after getting the
peanut for almost another 20 minutes. I really didn't go out and look
around but it's the same reaction s/he had at the beginning of the jay wars
last week when s/he followed me down the driveway and ran into a bunch of
Scrub Jays.

Also, me and several neighbors have noticed that since this started very
few crows around (and I know that the Stellars are intimidated by the crows
usually) - we usually have many crows. Even the three that hang out here
part of the day most days haven't been coming by and only saw two this
morning after putting out some food for the corvids.
