This summer, master banders from the Puget Sound Bird Observatory (PSBO)
will operate multiple high-elevation banding stations late July through
August in Washington's Eastern Cascade Mountains. The banding stations
are part of an on-going effort to document how birds use moist
high-elevation meadows in the Cascade Mountains to replace their
feathers and prepare for southward migration. During last year's
efforts, 90 species were detected and 1,202 birds netted for banding.
PSBO offers several ways for bird enthusiasts to get involved during the
study this summer:

Cascade Meadows Adult Banding Camp -- July 25-31st
During thisintensive six day field course, participants learn the basics
of net placement, bird handling and net extraction, aging and sexing,
and molts and plumage. The training follows North American Banding
Council guidelines, involves at least 12 hours a day of banding and
instruction time, and includes a workbook and Pyle guide. Cost: PSBO
member cost: $650; $700 +$50 materials fee. Meals and group camping
equipment are included. Space is limited, visit
http://pugetsoundbirds.org/upcoming-events/cascades-banding-camps/ for
details about registration and financial assistance.

Family Outreach Weekend -- August 6-8th
PSBO invites families to flock to the Eastern Cascades for an
educational camp out. In exchange for a small donation, participants
will enjoy banding demonstrations, complimentary dinners, games &
activities for children, guided birding through an alpine meadow, and
