I have noticed that there are fewer Indian plum fruits and wild rose
blooms this year. I wonder how this is affecting local birds who
frequent my yard. This year my yard is hosting a number of different
birds than last, already. Last year I had a Bohemian Waxwing to visit
the rose bramble and pick up an Indian plum fruit. The Indian plum
fruits were more plentiful last year whereas this year I see very,
very few.


The mystery bird re-appeared this morning at my bird feeder. White
above eye, black at eye with brown patch, white below eye nearly
around head. Brown streak on top of head. Triangle shaped beak, long
square grey tail - no notches in tail feathers. White wing coverts on
grey wings. Overall size about 7 inches. Smith's Longspur-like? Rustic
Bunting-like? There has to be a simple answer somewhere :) I'll keep
looking.


This bird I believed to be a Rustic Bunting in earlier post. It is
not a Rustic Bunting as mystery bird has no tail notch and instead a
long square tail shape.
