I know many knowledgeable people read Tweeters, so I hope one of you can
help me.

Because I don't allow my two cats to roam my property to hunt the birds
and other wildlife, I screened in our large woodshed so they can enjoy
the outdoors anytime via a cat door from the house and a screened-in
walkway.

About a month ago I noticed a nest being built on the ceiling of the
shed by, I think, bald-faced hornets. I know they're beneficial
insects, so I figured there was no harm in it. However, today I saw
that the nest is getting fairly large and I'm starting to wonder if
leaving it will pose any threat to my two cats. At an internet site I
read about a nest that got so heavy the bottom fell out and there were
"angry hornets".

So, should I call an exterminator to get rid of the nest, or leave it
be? I hate to kill the hornets, but I don't want my cats to be harmed.
