Absolutely second getting in touch with Bill Jolly
jollyabberton at bigpond.com. He has a VERY birdy garden and can be
engaged for guiding in the area. He takes incredible photos.
Do not know how far North you will go but I highly recommend Cape
Tribulation across the Daintree River (huge salt water crocs and flying
foxes on the river) and fabulous rainforest across and north. See
http://www.daintreecoast.com/index.php?id=82. That is where early one
morning at the Park I found a mother southern cassowary and two chicks -
exceptionally exciting. Further South, another great place (but pricey)
is O'Reilly's http://www.oreillys.com.au/ in Lamington National Park.
Finally I can strongly endorse Kingfisher Park
http://www.birdwatchers.com.au/bird_watching_wildlife.htm
It is North of Cairns (it was my take off place for Cape Trib) and a
great spot in and of itself.
