Hello All,

Thanks to a tip from a local resident, I was able to observe Am. White
Pelicans in Gray's Bay, Wahkiakum county, this morning (6/28/10), for about
half an hour from 10 AM onward. I counted 95 birds, a conservative count,
as I was not always able to distinguish individual birds at long distances
across the bay. A scope is definitely a plus in this situation. The large
birds, with long pink beaks, and white wings with black primary feathers,
flying about magestically, were unmistakable.

I viewed the birds from Harrington Point, about 5.5 miles south of Rosburg,
on the Altoona-Pillar Rock Road. Most of them were roosting at the north
and northwestern edge of the bay, with a few out on the bay, over into
Clatsop county (Oregon), and a few flying westward on into Pacific county, WA.
