Yes, Thais was truly one-of-a-kind. Years ago, February, in the later
1990's, Thais accompanied another friend and I on a quickly organized Hawk
Owl car adventure to eastern WA. This was a life bird for all of us, and,
it was easily visible; cavorting in broad daylight on sidewalks and railings
in the middle of a small college campus south of Spokane. It's a wonderful
memory. Thais was a gracious lady, and a great birder; she recruited me to
the Audubon Society Christmas Bird count for the Des Moines / Kent Valley
annual surveys when I moved to Des Moines, WA, in 1994 - 1999. It was a
privilege to know her, indeed.
