Hello Tweeters,
Since we've been told that it's somewhat of a rarity, just wanted to report that my husband and I saw a tufted duck swimming around with scaup on Drano lake at around noon today. We are not terribly experienced birders, but the tuft at the back of the head was unmistakable and we can find no other species with the right markings. I've been reading that hybrids between tufted ducks and scaup are possible, but did not know this at the time, and therefore did not look for those particular markings. Unfortunately,?it was too far away for a photo with the camera I had.
Please contact us if you've seen this bird, as I'd feel more confident in the ID if it were corroborated.?
