Subject: [Tweeters] Signs of Spring

What a gorgeous day! Spring is definitely in the air, even though more
seasonal and colder weather is in the forecast for next week. The Twin Lakes
neighborhood is very pretty right now, with fragrant pink and white
ornamental trees in bloom. Song Sparrows, Bewick's Wrens and even a Spotted
Towhee can be seen singing their heart out. Yesterday morning I saw two
pairs of Black-capped Chickadees fighting over a nesting cavity in a willow
at Treasure Island Park. Later a pair of Bushtits showed up at my suet
feeder. Seems their busy hordes have split up into pairs. No longer do I
have 12 -15 hanging of one suet cake. The numbers of American Wigeons are
dwindling and they seem to be paired off. Mallards have been paired for
some time now and are investigating yards for nesting locations. For at
least a couple of weeks now, we have had a male Common Goldeneye on one lake
and a single female Canvasback on the other. I guess there is no chance that
these two will find each other? Spring is right around the corner and I must
journey to Eastern Washington to enjoy the spectacle of Sandhill Crane
migration! Are there any sightings yet?

Good Birding!
