I was thrilled to read that the eagle nest at the Black River heronry fell. But I just stopped by Kenmore Park & Ride to take a look at my local heronry. As I scanned the trees counting birds I came on an Eagle perched on the edge of one of the nests. There were only about 40 herons (usually 60-80) on the nest trees and none of them were sitting on nests. Occasionally one or two would lift off and move to a new branch but they seemed to not be paying any attention to the enemy in their midst. After watching the herons for several minutes I went to the police station where a monitor for fish and wildlife's heron cam is. The nest the camera is focused on has had 4 eggs in it. Now there is just one broken shell. The officer at the desk told me she saw the eagle fly in and eat the egg while the herons were off the nest. Another man in the office said this is about the eighth time it has happened.
