I checked on the hummer nest I found last friday at the arboretum. After a gentle suggestion from Dave H., I went back there today with my scope and discovered that it was an Anna's, not a Rufous on the nest. I watched from 11-12:30 as she continued to make jaunts every 5-10 minutes for either food or nest materials. Last time she was lining it with small green lichens or moss. This time she was lining it with a fine, white, fluffy material that I think she was getting from blackberry bushes, and pieces of spider web.

I also had great looks at the Renton Burrowing Owl from 4-5. It has become quite the celebrity. People were walking right up underneath it and taking pictures with their cell phones. Despite appearing to not be agitated, I gently reminded (yes, me) a couple of people that without a burrow to hide in, they might scare it off. One, a young man with a cell phone that looked like he might try to climb the tree, the other a woman with a camera with probably a 250-300 telephoto who was leaning up against the trunk.

And so it goes...
