Phoenix isn't as birdy as Tucson,
but don't miss Gilbert Water Ranch just east of the Gilbert Library at
Guadalupe Rd and Greenfield Rd, just south of US-60.
I also like to bird at Lost Dutchman State Park near Apache Junction. The
north edge of the park is always good for Phainopepla's and sometimes
Black-Throated Sparrows.
And, of course, further east, near Superior, AZ is Boyce Thompson Arboretum,
along Queen Creek, and not to be missed.

In Tucson, I never miss Sabino Canyon. Take the tram to the end, then walk
between stops 8 and 1.
And I never miss Sweetwater Wetlands just off I-10 with a little bird on
every limb. The resident bobcat is great to see also.
Agua Caliente is a beautiful, cool park on a hot day with good birding.
South of Tucson is Madera Canyon, an IBA, about 75 minutes away, where I
have found several lifers. And further south and east are many famous
birding areas, great if you have the time.

My family and I will be in Arizona during the first week in April and we'll
be splitting our time between the Phoenix and Tucson areas. If any of you
have any insights regarding good birding areas, or other natural history
sites in those vicinities, I'd appreciate some advice. Thanks.
