It was a beautiful morning here in Edmonds with no breeze to speak of
on the Sound. High numbers of Brant continue and three Great Blue
Herons were on the marina breakwater. Good sightings from Marina
Beach included a White-winged Scoter, Bonaparte's Gulls, and one
Common Murre. Horned Grebes near the public pier are molting into
breeding plumage. Five Rhinoceros Auklets were in breeding plumage.
Not too much activity at the Marsh, but Marsh Wren and Savannah
Sparrow are back. One Violet-green Swallow was high over the Marsh.
We watched Bushtits building a nest in a Scotch broom at the east end
of the red path that runs along the north side of the Marsh. Both
Red-breasted Sapsuckers as well as a pair of Downy Woodpeckers
continue in the Willow Creek Hatchery. No Rufous Hummingbird this
morning.
