Hi, David & Tweets

I, quite frankly, welcome David's rather positive comments about house sparrows. They've been around since I started birding at age six and I find them an interesting bird - so did Hazel Wolfe - and the male is quite handsome.

I don't have them here in Bothell, but in New Hampshire there was a small group that was usually around. We lived in the countryside and while most of the area was grassy, we had plantings around the house. One rather short and round bush was the haven for the house sparrows. It was rather humorous when they would all congregate in the middle of the bush, chirping loudly, while an accipiter walked around the bush in great frustration. The bush was very dense and, in winter, one could watch the drama develop. I never saw the accipiter win - the sparrows stayed in their bush!

I like Scotch broom, too . . .

Cheers, Diann
