HI all,
?
When one of Stewart's older brothers, DOUG WECHSLER, lived here in the 70s, he used to say, "Never cancel a birding?trip on account of rain in the Northwest."?? In that?spirit Delia and I went up to TWO RIVERS Wildlife Area south of Monroe (from Monroe south on 203, right on Tualco Rd.)? .
?
We did not see or check out blackbird flocks and missed?a hoped-for Great Horned Owl, and we missed any Chickadees, Kinglets, Towhees?and saw no?Rufous Hummingbirds, which were present yesterday at Luther Burbank, but before we hightailed it for home out of the driving rain?we?were?pleased to see:
?
1. American Kestrel (on Tualco)
2. Tree Swallow? (HUGE?numbers of these with some Violet-greens mixed in--a?Tachycyneta flock--?over the prison pond in the driving rain, clearly they were taking advantage of a supieror foraging area under adverse conditions, wind and hard rain).
3. Violet-green Swallow
4. Greater Yellowlegs (four on the prison pond)
5? Ring-necked Duck
6? Shoveler
7. American Coot
8.?Bufflehead
9.? Double-crested Cormorant
10. Green-winged Teal
11.?Mallard
12.? Rock Pigeon
13. American Crow
14. Eurasian Starling
15. American Robin
16.? Red-winged Blackbird
17.? Canada Goose
18. Lesser Scaup
19.? Northern Pintail
20.? Evening Grosbeak (10 or 12 were cheerfully vocalizing and?working the oldgrowth Bigleaf Maples in the main woods.)
21. Song Sparrow
22. Bewick's Wren
23. Winter Wren
24. Downy Woodpecker
25 Hairy Woodpecker
26. Steller's Jay
27.?Canvasback (two females on the south slough)
28? Wood Duck (two couples)
29. Northern Harrier (over the prison pond)
30. Red-tailed Hawk
31. Hooded Merganser
32. Pied-billed Grebe (one)
?
We're scoring this one for Doug.
?
Thanks all,
?
