Went down to Bottle Beach Friday for the dedication to Patrick Sullivan. I still think of the many times he helped me to identify the birds in my pictures as I was learning.
Afterwards I went out to the beach and found a place a little removed from other people and waited for the tide and the birds to move in. It was very gray, a little windy and chilly, and as I watched the peeps it seemed as if they were a little hunched up, as I was, even when they were skittering around. When they would stop and stand it was even more so. Toward the last I was having trouble getting photos of them with their eyes open and finally they all left. Going to roost I bet.
I put up some photos. I particularly like the three Semipalmated Plovers together and the five Western Sandpipers in a huddle. I think those two best express the kind of day it was.
It was nice to get out though, so all in all, 'a very good day'.
