Reports this week are coming in of WARBLING VIREO at the Hatchery, as
well as lots of WILSON'S WARBLERS, PACIFIC SLOPE FLYCATCHERS, and
CASSIN'S VIREOS at Yost Park. This morning's birding (5-1-10) was
pretty good even though no vireos were seen by me or anyone else I
talked to. It was nice to have a steady flock of VIOLET-GREEN
SWALLOWS at the Marsh. There were 1 WESTERN and 16 LEAST
SANDPIPERS. Of note was 1 DUNLIN that had partially molted into its
black belly, as reported by Ted Peterson who was about 15 minutes
behind me for his Marsh viewing this morning. The Hatchery hosted
WILSON'S, TOWNSEND'S, BLACK-THROATED GRAY, YELLOW-RUMPED, and ORANGE-
CROWNED WARBLERS this morning, along with NORTHERN FLICKER, DOWNY
WOODPECKER, and RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER. Of note was the prominently-
displayed orange crown of the O-C, an uncommon sight. PILEATED and
HAIRY WOODPECKERS were also seen at Yost Park. Warbler viewing was
terrible with the glare from the cloud cover but still possible. It
looks like the Buffleheads have migrated north, along with the Mew
Gulls.
