April is probably the best spring month for spotting turkey vultures,
at least the ones on migration. Even with our rather strange spring
the vultures are coming through on time. Thanks for all the reports.
Following are the sightings from Washington, British Columbia, and Oregon.

April 2010
01 - 2 over north Seattle (19th NE/NE 82)
03 - 1 over Woodway; 1 on the ground in the Cle Elum area; 1 near
Legacy Marsh, Lantzville, B.C.
04 - 6-8 in trees along Lake Sammamish; 2 over the Chehalis River
Discovery Trail; 5 at Port Townsend
05 - 1 from New Westminster;
06 - 1 east of Montesano
07 - 8 in a stand of trees southeast of W.Uncas Road and from
Hwy.101; 5 roosting in a tree on the Brady Loop Road
08 - 2 in the Roslyn/Cle Elum area
09 - 1 at Ridgefield NWR; 2 between Aberdeen/Ocean Shores; 2 over
downtown Portland and 4 over the West Hills Oregon; 1 along Hwy.24 on
the Wahluke Slope; 1 over Littlerock; several circling over Nanaimo,
B.C.; 2 soaring near the Roslyn exit; 1 near Easton; 1 near Ellensburg
10 - 1 near Boundary Bay RP, B.C.; 1 over the Alaksen NWA, B.C.; 1
subadult soaring with 2 redtails over Glacial Heritage; 1 east of
Dayton; 1 over Easton; 1 west of Easton; 3 near Cle Elum exit; 2 over
Sprague Lake; 1 over Boundary Bay RP, B.C.
11 - 2 over north Seattle; 1 at Kalama; 2 at Dike Road, I-5 corridor;
2 near Wilsonville and 1 north of Salem, Oregon; 1 at the Morrell
Nature Sanctuary, Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 over Cle Elum ridge; 2 soaring 4
miles east of Ocean Shores; 1 soaring in a strong wind (and staying
stationery) over Therler's Wetlands; 1 south of the Roslyn exit; 3 at
the Cle Elum exit; 1 at Ellensburg; 1 at Cle Elum; 3 at Easton; 1 at
Kachess Lodge
12 - 2 feeding on road kill east of Aldrich; 11 between
Ellensburg/North Bend; 6 at Point Wilson plus small numbers flying
over Admiralty Inlet most days
14 - 1 over Kitchen-Dick Road, Sequim; 5 at the Roslyn turnoff
15 - 1 soaring over the Fill
17 - 5 from the Chehalis Discovery Trail
18 - several along the Okanogan River near Malott; 1 at Legacy Marsh
in Lantzville, B.C.; 3 from the trail in Tom McCall NP, Oregon; 1
near Maple Ridge Park, B.C.
19 - 2 over the LeMay Dump, east Aberdeen
20 - 1 over Icicle Canyon
21 - 1 just outside Ocean Shores; 2 between OS/Hoquiam
22 - 3 down the Snoqualmie Falls gorge w/the male peregrine
paralleling them; 1 flying in circles over the Snoqualmie Valley
area; 1 over Theler Wetlands; 1 on Sea Island near Vancouver, B.C. airport
23 - 1 over Fall City
24 - 7 near Lake Sammamish; 7, then 12, then 9 near the Old Olympic
Hwy. at Spring Road; 1 at River S/Ridgefield NWR
25 - 2 northbound over I-5 between Conway/Mount Vernon;1 at Bowen
Park, Nanaimo, B.C.; 1 cruising the upper ridges at Mill Canyon
26 - 1 at Nisqually; 10 soaring over Easton
27 - 5 drifting south over the West Snoqualmie River Road;1 perched
at the top of a tall snag in Top Bridge Trail, Parksville, B.C.
28 - 1 at the Twin Barns overlook, Nisqually NWR; "a large
congregation" NE of Discovery Bay for two weekends

Keep looking up. May should be a good month also since they'll be
settling down to nest.
