Dear Tweets
Spent Saturday in the eastern part of the Columbia Gorge, near
Catherine Creek on Coyote wall. It was 48 degrees and 30mph winds
with drizzle off and on throughout the morning. I mostly look at
flowers, but the birding was great. The oaks are now putting their
leaves and so everthing is green and alive.
Here is a partial list of the birds seen:
Turkey
Osprey
Red-tailed hawk
Lewis Woodpecker
Harry Woodpecker
Turkey Vulture
Red-breasted Nuthatch
Dusky Flycatcher
Barn Swallow
Cliff Swallow
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Scrub Jay
Common Raven
Black-capped Chickadee
Mountain Chickadee This is the first time I have seen it in CC area
and very low (600')
Canyon Wren
Rock Wren
American Robin
Hermit Thrush
Western Bluebird
Ruby-crowned kinglet singing
European Starling
Orange-crowned Warbler
Nashville Warbler
Yellow Warbler
Spotted Towhee
Dark-eyed Junco
White-crowned Sparrow
Black-throated Gray Warbler
Northern Oriole singing
And one western Gray Squirrel. This is the second one I have seen in
the area in 12 years.
