I waited until Connie posted her Fill report before writing this. As I
was walking past Urban Hort into the main area I saw Connie coming out
and she signaled to come quickly. She had just seen the Yellow Headed
Blackbird foraging at Shoveler's Pond and with her information I
immediately went over to watch it...lots of good pictures as it worked
the entire west bank and then flew "south". When Connie signals...just
GO!!! Came around the southern end of that pond to head over to Main
Pond and the Osprey flew overhear. Caught it at 25X on the wing. Up to
the northern end of Main Pond and found a little treasure trove:
Mallard Pair with 5 fuzzballs, a Lesser Yellowlegs, Snipe, 10 Least
Sandpiper and 1 Western. Also a Red Winged Blackbird chased a Belted
Kingfisher all the way from the Main Pond to the Lake. And ALL with the
sun coming from behind me onto them - perfect picture taking light.
Otherwise a lot fewer ducks than usual, more warblers than usual
(yellowthroat, yellow rumped, and orange crowned but could not find the
Wilson's I saw just behind Urban Hort parking yesterday afternoon).
Lots of Warbling Vireos. Enjoy the beautiful day.
