Subject: [Tweeters] Rethinking Lesser Yellowlegs vs. Solitary Sandpiper

I earlier reported seeing a Lesser Yellowlegs at the north end of the
main pond at the fill. The picture I got was not terrific but
distinctly yellow legs, right size etc. I went back this afternoon and
in wonderful light now from the southwest I got a number of really clear
pictures and now I am confused. The bird seems to be about the right
size for Lesser Yellowlegs but some seemingly conflicting (and very
clear) field marks bring confusion and wonder if it might be a Solitary
Sandpiper instead which is somewhat smaller I believe. The legs as I
said are quite yellow and the spotting on back seems like the yellowlegs
but there is also a very distinctive white eye ring (almost an eye
patch) and the bill is bicolored: 1/3 to 1/2 black at the tip and the
remainder yellow to its base. I only saw it fly once and there seemed
to be quite a lot of white on the tail ... again more like a
yellowlegs. So any thoughts, insights, help? Anyone else see this bird?
