Usually our various summer visitors dribble in over a several week period.
But this weekend was an arrival bonanza of unprecedented proportions for our
back yard. The lousy weather last week must have left a lot of migrants
waiting just south of us for a break, because a whole bunch of them arrived
between Sat and Sun including:

BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS (3), EVENING GROSBEAKS (14), AMERICAN GOLDFINCH (1),
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS (2), ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLERS (2), WILSON'S WARBLER
(1), VAUX'S SWIFTS (2), BROWN-HEADED COWBIRDS (1), TURKEY VULTURES (4), and
my very favorites, a pair of WESTERN TANAGERS.

In addition, we have what we think is one very juvenile BARRED OWL who's
trying to figure out how to do his call. We haven't seen him, but he's been
calling from just outside the window for a couple of nights, and the sounds
coming out of his mouth are hilarious.
