Hello, this is the Audubon Society of Portland Rare Bird Report. This report
was made Thursday May 13. If you have anything to add call Harry Nehls at
503-233-3976.

The apparent peak of the spring migration took place during the week
bringing BLACK-HEADED GROSBEAKS, WESTERN TANAGERS, LAZULI BUNTINGS, and
BULLOCK?S ORIOLES, CHATS and WESTERN KINGBIRDS. There were several reports
of skulking SWAINSON?S THRUSHES.

CALLIOPE HUMMINGBIRDS continue to be reported in western Oregon lowlands.
Peak numbers of VAUX?S SWIFTS were reported with about 1800 in Prineville
May 7, and 1219 in Oregon City and 22,000 at the Chapman School roost in
Portland the next day.

On May 8 among the large number of birds passing Boiler Bay were 18,000
PACIFIC LOONS, 52,000 WESTERN SANDPIPERS, 22,000 MURRES, and 500 RHINOCEROS
AUKLETS. A SANDHILL CRANE was at the Salmon River north of Lincoln City May
8. Five RED KNOTS were at Tillamook Bay that day.

The WRENTITS continue to be seen at the Troutdale Airport. On May 11 a BLACK
SWIFT was over Mt. Tabor in Portland. Near Brownsville May 8 were two
AVOCETS along Diamond Hill Road, and a LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE and GRASSHOPPER
SPARROW along Belts Road.

On May 12 a LONG-BILLED CURLEW was at Fern Ridge Reservoir. A male
BLACK-CHINNED HUMMINGBIRD was in Glide May 8. That day a HERMIT WARBLER was
near Bend.

That?s it for this week.
