Hello all,

Last night we heard a Western Screech Owl calling ~11 PM off 18th Ave NE
(off South Bay Road) in Olympia. This is only the second time we've
heard one in the area (the first time was the night of May 13th).

On a different topic, yesterday afternoon found an egg sitting on the
ground next to our driveway (same area), approximately 2.2 cm x 3.1 cm,
beige with brown spots. I've posted a picture of the egg at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/89985360 at N00/4619301460/ - curious if it
can be identified?

Also, we have a family of chestnut-backed chickadees nesting in a box in
our yard with a live video feed to the house. The female first started
to spend the night in the box on April 19, but it wasn't until April
27th that she started full-time incubation (of 7 eggs). The first chick
hatched May 10th (at 2:09 PM), the last chick didn't hatch until May
11th (at 2 PM). Based on the chronology of last year we are expecting
them to fledge May 28th. We have some short video clips of the hatching
and chicks at
http://www.flickr.com/photos/89985360 at N00/sets/72157624036274716/ and
will add some more clips over the next 10 days
