I took a couple of people who contacted me through "Birdpal.org" birding for the morning today. They were very easy to please and the birding was pretty good in Discovery Park between 8 and 10 A.M.



The highlight was a WHIMBREL which flew past West Point headed south. I notice that is not on Matt Bartel's cumulative?county yearlist project for King County yet. I think I was more excited than they were since I knew it was pretty uncommon here and they of course didn't.



Other birds of note included an immature male BULLOCK'S ORIOLE singing in the area just north of the currently shrouded lighthouse. Multiple ORANGE-CROWNED and WILSON'S WARBLERS in the same area. One WARBLING VIREO was present as well as lots of more common stuff, which gave us good looks.



A breeding-plumaged PACIFIC LOON was our reward for scanning to the south of the lighthouse in the *cold* south wind.



There were a lot of birds around the visitor's center although they were much harder to spot than those near the water. Best birds in that area were EVENING GROSBEAK, W.W. PEWEE,?nesting PILEATED WOODPECKER and a singing CASSIN'S VIREO. We also had a quick look at a MERLIN, which seemed unusual this time of year.
