Hi Hans & Tweets

As of last summer, when I took a group there, one of the best sites in the Victoria vicinity was still the fields on Central Saanich Rd (covered on pp. 106-7, and 108 in the ABA A Birder's Guide to Washington). When you are coming south on highway 17 from either Swartz Bay or Sidney watch for Mt. Newton Cross Road. Turn right and immediately right again on Central Saanich Rd. Just up the road a ways are the fields across from the large series of greenhouses. There is parking alongside the road. Birder's are o.k. to walk the main roads thru the fields, but be aware of any farming activity. Watch the fields and overhead for displaying Sky Larks. Please do not go out into the fields.

Good birding,

Hi Tweeters,

I will be visiting Victoria, B.C. next week and was wondering if there have been any recent sightings of the Eurasian Skylark on Vancouver Island? To the best of my knowledge, the small population on San Juan Island ceased to exist with the introduction of foxes a few years ago.

Since this topic may be of interest to others, you may want to post on Tweeters of respond to me directly.

Thank You!
