A really nice day today at the Lakewood Marina (foot of So Genesee St
at Lake Washington Blvd). A pair of lingering Ring-necked Ducks was
resting in the northern cove along with two male Blue-winged Teal. The
Teal were a first in 10+ years at that location. Overhead, Cliff
Swallows and a single Vaux Swift mingled with the usual Barn and
Violet-green Swallows. Two Osprey unsuccessfully worked the shallows
while a Bald Eagle waited for an easy meal. A pair of Kingfisher
skittered back and forth from the willow thickets and the moored boats,
vocalizing all the way. Four fledgling Red-wing Blackbirds fussed in
the brush while their dad tried to drive me off. He won. I ducked just
once and backed off. There was also a robust display of Gadwall
romance, a couple of Wilson's Warblers and one brilliant Bewick's Wren
solo.
