HI Tweeters,

We hadn't visited the Montlake Fill since the latest batch of
signs went up. It sounded pretty grim. Nonetheless, with some trepidation,
we went to the Fill this morning. Somehow I forgot my binoculars, so I had
to keep asking Bill to look at this or that bird! We decided to mostly bird
away from the Main Pond and Shoveler's Pond, so visited the Dime Lot, Surber
Grove, etc. The (for us) best birds of the day were a Blue-winged Teal in
the marshy area next to the Dime Lot and a Mourning Dove on the road next to
the fenced in area behind the greenhouses. It flushed almost as soon as we
saw it and flew back behind the fence.

I do still have some questions about the signage around the main
ponds. It appears that the signs are all on the inside of the loop created
by the gravel path. I get the idea that that whole area is off limits, but
it looks like the sign near the Main Pond is placed so that we could still
approach the pond and view it before we get to the pond. But maybe I'm
wrong. Then, what about the areas outside the loop? Can we walk over to
Lake Washington or is this off limits? Are we supposed to not walk in the
few feet to Shoveler's Pond? I apologize if this has already been spelled
out and I missed it. Someone from the CUH can write to me off Tweeters, if
this is repeating earlier queries.
