Subject: [Tweeters] Common loon female shot at Long Lake, Ferry County

Tweeters,
I wanted to mention that the territorial female from Long Lake, Ferry County, was shot recently. She was seen incubating two eggs prior to being shot. Washington lost not only a pair member of a breeding common loon, but two potential chicks, and even possibly the loss of the territory as well. Washington has few non-territorial loons present for replacement or for even beginning a new territory.
This shooting is the third shooting of a territorial loon in three years in Washington. The other two lakes still do not have the vacancy filled and may become a lost or vacant lake for common loon breeding.
A reward is offered for $1000.00 with the hopes of catching the individual/s involved.
