Hi Tweets,

After a couple of weeks of East Coast birding, it is so nice to
return to rain and morning temps in the 40s! Who wants to be able to
walk around in shorts and flip-flops, for Pete's sake? Better the
rain jacket and birding umbrella. True grit. So this morning
(5-29-10) was my first tour around the Edmonds Bowl since May 3rd and
things have changed. The Mew and Bonaparte's Gulls have left and the
California Gulls are back. The Surf and Black Scoters and Brants
have moved out. There was no sign of Purple Martins at the gourds or
the marsh this morning. A Spotted Sandpiper was the only migrating
shorebird seen in the marsh. There is a report a late Least
Sandpiper was there last weekend. And I missed the Gray Flycatcher
seen at Point Edwards last Sunday as well as several Cinnamon Teal
that were recently in the marsh. A Western Wood-Pewee has been in
the hatchery for the last several days and we located it this morning
along with a small flock of Western Tanagers and an Orange-crowned
Warbler. While we were watching the tanagers, a Swainson's Thrush
called. We saw no swallows at the marsh, but there was a good-sized
flock of Violet-greens feeding at low levels in the hatchery. Barn
Swallows were seen along the marina and at the far end of the Point
Edwards public path. A small flock of Cedar Waxwings were at Point
Edwards along with a male Rufous Hummingbird. There appears to be
one successful Great Blue Heron nest in the marina, seen from the
vicinity of Anthony's Beach Cafe. An adult was plopped firmly on the
nest this morning, hopefully incubating eggs.
