Today (Sunday) at Wenas lake we (myself and 3 Engle women) watched the
nuptial behavior of a pair of Cedar waxwings. The male had what looked to
be a rosehip in his beak, he sidled up the female and she took/he gave it to
her, she made one step away for a second, stepped back and handed the
rosehip back to the male, who took a step away, then stepped back and passed
it back. Back and forth and back and forth this little intimate dance
went, both were very precise in handing off the rosehip, no bobbles in the
beak to beak exchange and the timing of their stepping aside, then back
could have been set to music. I had read about this but to see in person
was a highlight of the trip.
