Hi Tweeters,
Made a visit to Stillwater yesterday looking for the Redstart. I ran into Mike Flemming at the Redstart location who had just seen the bird. Well, I guess it wasn't my day for this bird. I could hear it but never saw it. I even came back later in the afternoon and missed it then also. Another trip is in the near future. By the way, for those of you who are planning to look for the Redstart calf high, rubber boots are recommended, its very wet in the area. I then went to check-out the Cliff Swallows, it was quite a sight. These were life birds for me so it was pretty exciting. I thought I got a photo of them but I believe they're Rough-winged Swallows. I don't think the Cliff Swallows perch anywhere outside of they're nesting areas, At least I didn't see any.
I also saw my FOY mosquitoes and donated some blood.
Other birds of note were:
Western Tanager (flock of 6 to 8 in the Redstart location)
Swainson Thrush (many calling few seen)
Black-headed Grosbeak
Virginia Rail (heard)
Willow Flycatcher
Noisy Belted Kingfisher pair (at the Cliff Swallow location.) It appears they are nesting in the area.
Mike Flemming saw an American Bittern fairly close to the south parking area.
By the way I heard the sun was going to make an appearance after the 4th of July. I'm starting to get ready for it now.
