Hello,

After the good reports coming from Steptoe Butte, I decided to make a trip
into Whitman County. These are some of the notable birds I found.

Steptoe Butte: Hairy (1) and Downy (2) Woodpeckers, both Kinglets, Pacific
Wren at the picnic area; BLUE JAY in the thickest pine forest .6 up from
the picnic area. Gray-crowned Rosy Finches (5) along the road from the
rock quarry all the way to the very top. Sharp-shinned Hawk.

Rock Lake: Common Merganser, Bald Eagle, Merlin, Bonaparte's Gulls (6),
Northern Shrike, White-crowned Sparrow.

At a pond along Hwy 23 (mp 24): SNOW GEESE (2), Tundra Swans (12) and a
nearby Rough-legged Hawk.

There was not much on the Lincoln side of Sprague Lake, but the Adams side
had a lot of the typically expected waterfowl plus Eared, Western, and
Horned Grebes, Common Loon, a nice male WHITE-WINGED SCOTER. A Prairie
Falcon was also seen.

Blessings
