Hi All,

Barry Ulman asked about the number of Tropical Kingbirds that have been
reported for the entire state of Washington. Although I do not know the
exact number I would guess that it is about 50 total. Over the past 10
years or so western Washington is averaging about 3 sightings per fall.
By my count we have had two thus far this fall - one at Westport and the
one in Bellingham. They are more expected on the outer coast so the
Bellingham bird has a bit of significance beyond apparently being
Whatcom's first.

I think Wayne Weber pretty much nailed it with his comments on the
Western Scrub-Jay invasion this fall. I am attempting to tally these
"northerly" jays with the thought of trying to put this fall's event
into some sort of context numbers-wise. So keep the reports of Western
Scrub-Jays coming as far as I'm concerned. Eastern Washington is also
having a few "invade" over there. Interesting stuff!

Cheers and good birding,
