An updated version of the 2010 county year list project is up at Washington Birder. We've received updates from most of the 39 WA counties with details through the end of October.

As of the end of October, the state year list was at 381 species, just a bit lower than the same point last year (when it was at 385). Western Washington is a little behind last year's pace, and eastern WA is six species ahead of last year. Most counties are reporting a higher species count than last year at this point, and 23 counties have crossed the 200 species mark for the year.

A few other notes:

At this point last year, Acorn Woodpecker had been reported only in Klickitat County. This year it has been reported in 9 counties [10 if you include this week's report from Pacific Co.]

As for Lewis's Woodpecker & Western Scrub-Jays -- the county level year list perspective doesn't seem to reveal anything unusual -- only one more county reporting each compared with last year (with a couple more counties like to be added in the final update at the end of the year).

Eurasian Collared Doves continue their march -- 36 of 39 counties have reported them this year [only Ferry, Pend Oreille & Skamania have not hosted them in 2010]


Overall, it is a great time to take a look at the lists and see whether you've recorded something in one of the counties that might help fill a gap in the year list. If so, please email the county compiler with details and accept our thanks.
