Just received my American Birds digest of the 110th Christmas Bird Count. Browsing the British Columbia section. there was a snippet about Anna's Hummingbird. On January 21 st of this year I posted the record CBC totals for ANHU in Washington State - 778 birds, of which 337 were recorded on the Seattle count alone. The totals were, of course, a record and one that would be hard to beat, I thought.
However BC reported a total of 1074 birds, from likely fewer counts than here, with a massive 556 on the Victoria count alone! So what is it fellers, is it the water or the nectar? I know Victoria has a mildish climate, but are those folks better gardeners? Are the hotel rates lower in the off-season?
Oh and I like Scrub Jays too - just find me one in Discovery Park please!
