Hi Doug,

I looked at your picture of a hawk with a "deformed" bill, and I'm
very intrigued. The bird does not look to me like a Red-tailed Hawk.
The rufous barring on the underside is not typical of Red-tails (though
I admit there's a lot of variation.), and look at the tail: White on
the inner half and blackish on the outer half. Now this may sound
totally off the wall, but I'm thinking Hook-billed Kite. It is very
unlikely that a Hook-billed Kite would occur here, but the coloration
of this bird is somewhat like a female Hook-bill, and indeed the bill
is very hooked. I would really like to check this bird out, as I live
fairly close to where you saw it.
