Tweets,

Evan Houston and I spent last Thursday visiting a few Grays Harbor
spots, dodging the rain and missing the high tide.

Most productive spot was the Hoquiam STP, with 46 species, while the
game range was mostly empty, save a few wigeon and gulls and a single
juvenile Trumpeter Swan.

Along Sand Dune Ave, a Merlin was perched atop a Douglas Fir. At Point
Brown Jetty, among the Western Gulls was an adult with a leg band: B46
in white on a black band on the right leg.

At the Ocean Shores STP, while we sheltered from the horizontal rain
under the porch of the office, were 2 Black Turnstones, a solitary
Black-bellied Plover and a Red Phalarope that flew in for a brief visit.
The phalarope was a lifer for both of us!

We missed the tide at Bottle Beach, managing only a dozen Black-bellied
Plover and about 50 Dunlin. The trees by the shelter held several
hundred American Crows; among other passerines were 7 Purple Finch.

We finally found the shorebirds, right at dusk, at Westhaven SP:
Black-bellied Plover (50), Semipalmated Plover (20), Killdeer (1),
Sanderling (40), Western Sandpiper (30), Least Sandpiper (20), and
Dunlin (150).

Good birding.
