Hi All,

Just a brief update on the bizarre-looking hybrid at Kits Point (which, it
turns out, was seen earlier in November across the entrance to False Creek
at English Bay, so it &/or the flock with which it it is travelling is
moving about). Thanks to links of different birds kindly provided by Joe
Morlan:

and Bill & Nancy LaFramboise:

and a smashingly good close-up photographed last year at Esquimault Lagoon
by Dave Appleton here:

the bird can reasonably be presumed to be a Bufflehead X Common Goldeneye
hybrid.

Has anyone an idea of this hybrid's frequency of occurrence over, say, the
last twenty years?

best wishes
