We birded San Juan Island for the past few days and think we spotted a
Northern Goshawk. The bird flushed from the side of the road and
disappeared before we could get a better look at it. It was at least the
size of a red-tailed hawk and totally pale gray with no noticeable
markings-although we did not get a good look at the head. It had a "chunky"
appearance. It definitely was not a Northern Harrier. This was on Cattle
Point Road just south of the intersection with the entrance to the American
Camp Visitor's Center. We returned there several times and could not
relocate it.

On Lopez Island, yesterday, we saw a lone turkey vulture. He must have
missed the last southbound boat!
